But it needs to be fixed, and now the weight of the world moves solely to Starfield.įollow me on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. I don’t know what Microsoft needs to do here because it’s not clear what’s going on behind the scenes to create messes of this scale. An Arkane game should have been a layup but instead it feels like they’re being carted off the court in an ambulance. We are over two years into a console generation and Microsoft just has Flight Simulator and Forza and Hi-Fi Rush as its prized releases, while Halo Infinite already misfired. Whatever they’re doing, it’s not working. But if Arkane dropped the ball this badly, who knows what might happen with Bethesda here, as nothing seems like a guarantee in the Microsoft era now.Īt a certain point, this all comes back to Microsoft. Since Starfield is a mainline game from Bethesda you would expect something at least as successful as Fallout 3-4 or an Elder Scrolls title. It’s a bigger deal than the return of Perfect Dark and Fable, I’d say. More than any release this generation so far, and I’d argue probably more than any announced release to come. The upcoming release of Starfield, delayed a full year already, is now something of a terrifying prospect for Microsoft because there is so much pressure on it to deliver. Redfall arriving in this state from Arkane, of all places, speaks poorly of Microsoft’s management of its first party studios, and instead of beginning to turn around that narrative like it was supposed to, it’s done the opposite.
